Uzbekistan is a relatively young country, which was formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Yet its tradition is rich and rooted in the distant past. This is where the Silk Road laid, allowing the treasures of China to pass to Europe. In the days of the Genghis Khan, Uzbekistan became an important center for the Turko- Mongolian People. Another leader, namely Timor Lang, created a magnificent empire whose center is Samarkand. Uzbekistan combines the traditions of the Turks and the Mongolians, along with the Islam cultures of India and Persia. In its cities one can see the wonderful buildings from past centuries: mosques, schuls, bath houses, walls and minerettes, as well as the local folk who still live as their ancestors did before them.
